PRESS: Western car cos ask Russia for zero duty for LNG vehicles

MOSCOW, Aug 24 (PRIME) -- Western car producers asked Russia to cancel a customs duty and a recycling fee for imported commercial vehicles running on liquefied natural gas (LNG), business daily Vedomosti reported on Monday, citing documents for discussion with the government.

A source told Vedomosti that Russian gas giant Gazprom supports the proposal. The document cited by the newspaper says, "The measure aims at developing the LNG transport market until analogues of the vehicles appear in Russia."

Russian truck producer Kamaz has made only several vehicles running on LNG so far but its representative told Vedomosti that the company was ready to start serial production. He declined to comment on the proposal to introduce a zero duty on imports.
